Float Nurse (LPN/RN)

Behavioral Health Group (BHG)

Location: BHG Nashville Treatment Center - 342 22nd Ave N., Nashville, TN 37203
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | Early Morning Hours

Make a Difference in Recovery. Bring Your Nursing Skills Where They're Needed Most.

At Behavioral Health Group (BHG), we believe recovery is possible, and our nurses play a critical role in helping patients build healthier, more stable lives. As a leading provider of opioid addiction treatment services, we're committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that makes a lasting difference for our patients and the communities we serve.

We're looking for a Medication Float Nurse (LPN or RN) who enjoys variety, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is passionate about patient care.

Unlike a traditional nursing position assigned to a single location, this role provides nursing coverage across a designated group of treatment centers within close geographic proximity. You'll step in where your skills are needed most, supporting different teams, maintaining continuity of patient care, and helping ensure our treatment centers operate safely and effectively.

If you're an adaptable, dependable nurse who enjoys working with different teams while making a meaningful impact on patients' recovery journeys, we'd love to connect with you.

What You'll Do

As a Medication Float Nurse, you'll provide direct patient care and medication administration while supporting multiple BHG treatment centers within an assigned geographic area.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide flexible nursing coverage: Travel between assigned treatment centers to support planned and unplanned staffing needs, including scheduled PTO, leaves of absence, unexpected vacancies, and emergency coverage. Assignments may range from a few days to several weeks.
  • Administer medications safely: Administer methadone and other prescribed medications in accordance with physician orders, established protocols, and applicable regulations.
  • Deliver compassionate patient care: Conduct nursing assessments, evaluate patients for appropriate dosing and treatment needs, monitor patient responses, and communicate relevant concerns to the treatment team.
  • Maintain medication accountability: Ensure accurate dosing documentation, daily medication inventory reconciliation, and compliance with medication storage, handling, and reporting requirements.
  • Support clinical operations: Collect urine specimens, maintain accurate patient records, monitor required laboratory work and clinical documentation, and assist with medication shipments and inventory.
  • Collaborate across treatment centers: Partner with Program Directors, Nursing Supervisors, counselors, and fellow nurses to maintain consistent, high-quality patient care.
  • Promote quality and safety: Follow all applicable clinical, regulatory, and safety standards while identifying opportunities to improve patient care and treatment center operations.
  • Support fellow nurses: Assist with the orientation, training, and ongoing support of nursing team members as needed.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state(s) where assigned.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly between assigned treatment centers within a designated geographic area.
  • Flexibility to work at different locations based on changing staffing and operational needs.
  • Strong clinical judgment, organizational skills, and commitment to patient safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous nursing experience in substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, or medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
  • Familiarity with medication administration, patient assessments, and clinical documentation.
  • Experience working independently and adapting to different clinical environments.

What Will Help You Succeed

We're looking for someone who brings more than clinical skills to the role. Our most successful Float Nurses are:

  • Adaptable: Comfortable transitioning between different treatment centers, teams, and workflows.
  • Dependable: Someone colleagues can count on to step in and provide excellent patient care.
  • Collaborative: Able to build positive working relationships with nursing teams, counselors, and treatment center leadership.
  • Patient-Focused: Compassionate, respectful, and committed to treating individuals with substance use disorders with dignity.
  • Confident and Resourceful: Comfortable working independently, managing competing priorities, and making sound clinical decisions.
